Another year, another exciting semester of innovation and collaboration arrives as we get ready for a new CIC this Spring!
The judging and demo event of the CIC Spring 2016 will be held on April 12, 2016. There are also 2 hack events in support of the CIC competition this Spring. Click here for the detailed timeline.
The main theme of the competition is Connected Living.
Here are the sub categories:
Connected Home
Technologies and solutions for the home have come a long way in the past couple of years. The vision for the home is now more than hardware and more than software. The life style experience is being revolutionized constantly and innovation for the home is the focus for many – including the largest of the tech titans – Apple, Microsoft & Google each announcing product lines for the home. We believe the Home to be more than just connected – driven by real time connectivity and a surge in the various types of data collection – sensors, devices, appliances, the Home can be truly intelligent.
In this category, we will focus on solutions and services that focus on new ideas or reimagined solutions to old problems in the Home, driven by mobile convergence.
Connected Car
Cars, buses, trains are used everyday for transportation. The integration of wireless technology – whether it is built in or brought in – has exposed transformative capabilities to make transportation safer, smarter and more efficient. In this category we will focus on solutions and services that focus on diagnostics, telemetric (security, on-star like services etc), infotainment, vehicle tracking (fleet tracking), safety (driver distraction) in the vehicle.
Connected Communities
Connectivity has become ubiquitous. We live, work and play in a digital community and are engaged in constant interaction within and without. Technologies such iBeacons and other location based services has made it easier to communicate with the constituents in the community. From better navigation to hyper local crowd engagement to customized retail experiences, innovative solutions are waiting to be explored in this category.

About
The Convergence Innovation Competition (CIC) is a unique competition open to all Georgia Tech students and is run in both the Fall and Spring semesters. Each year the categories in the CIC are defined by our Industry partners who provide mentorship, judging, and category specific resources which are often available exclusively to CIC competitors. While the competition is not tied to any specific course, competitors are often able to take advantage of class partnerships where lecture and lab content, guest lectures, and projects are aligned with competition categories. CIC Competitors are supported by GT-RNOC research assistants who provide technical support and shepherd teams through the competition process. The overarching goal of the CIC is to create innovative and viable products and experiences including a strong user experience and a business case. Winning entries will include a working end-to-end prototype which operates on converged services, media, networks, services, and platforms. CIC winners go on to commercialization, other competitions, as well as internship and job opportunities strengthened by their competition experience. CIC is an annual event produced by GT-RNOC and the Institute for People and Technology (IPaT).
